Strawberry Basil Mezcal Margarita

Ingredients

For the cocktail

  • 2 oz Mezcal
  • ½ oz Cointreau
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 3/4 oz strawberry basil syrup
  • Ice cubes

For the garnish

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Basil leaves

For the strawberry + basil syrup

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves

Instructions

How to make the cocktail

  • In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz of Mezcal, ½ oz of Cointreau, 1 oz of fresh lime juice, ¾ oz of the strawberry basil syrup, and ice cubes.
  • Shake the mixture until combined and thoroughly chilled.
  • To serve, rim your serving glass with coarse salt and strain the cocktail into the glass filled with ice.
  • Garnish with fresh strawberries and basil leaves

How to make the syrup

  • In a saucepan, combine the strawberries, sugar, water, and torn basil leaves.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, letting it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Let the mixture cool, then strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve.
  • Discard the solids and transfer the syrup to a jar or airtight container.
