Ever tried making a blueberry daiquiri cocktail? We have the recipe!
Making cocktails with fresh berries is one of my favorite parts of summer. This can be done in several different ways such as muddling, infusions, shrubs or syrups. Using a blueberry syrup in place of a simple syrup is a great way to change up a classic daiquiri because there is no need to strain out any parts of the berries. It also creates a fun vibrant color that tastes as good as it looks!

What is a Daiquiri?
When you think of a daiquiri you might be thinking of a sweet frozen drink made with some type of pre-made mixer. This is nothing like the classic daiquiri. The original Daiquiri is a classic cocktail that originated in Cuba. It’s a very simple but refreshing drink that is made with rum, lime juice, and simple syrup. Here’s a recipe for a classic Daiquiri:
Ingredients:
- 2 oz white rum
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- ¾ oz simple syrup (made by dissolving equal parts sugar and water)
What is the difference between white rum and other rums?
White rum, sometimes called light rum or silver rum, is a type of rum that is clear or very light in color. It is a milder and more versatile rum compared to other types of rum.
White rum is usually aged for a shorter period or not aged at all which is the cause for its clear or pale color. White rum usually has a light and subtle flavor profile. White rum is often used as a base spirit in various cocktails such as Mojitos, Daiquiris, and Piña Coladas.
Pro Tip: Use fresh lime juice instead of bottled. Fresh lime juice has a superior flavor and aroma that enhances the cocktail. I recommend adding a quality hand juicer to your bar tool collection like this one.
How To Make Blueberry Syrup
Making a blueberry syrup at home is not much different from making a simple syrup. It is easy to make with only three ingredients: sugar, water and blueberries. You can also store this syrup in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to three weeks. It can be used in cocktails, mocktails and drizzled over foods like pancakes, ice cream or pies.
I like to use a swing top glass bottle to store my syrups.
The daiquiri is a very easy cocktail to change up by using a different type of syrup. It works well with fruity flavors like strawberry, guava or peach.
