With so many participating in Dry January, a month where many abstain from alcohol after the holiday season, I decided to make a few different types of drinks besides cocktails.
Who doesn’t love a cozy bedtime tea drink? This one is perfect for the cold winter nights and hopping on those New Year’s resolutions to get more restful sleep.

What is moon milk?
Moon milk has become popular in the past few years with the rise in popularity of adaptogenic herbs, although this recipe does not specially call for any. It’s a recipe of milk, spices and herbs that is soothing to drink before bed time. Most moon milk recipes (like this one) use colorful ingredients.
What is butterfly pea flower tea?
Butterfly pea flower tea is an herbal tea made from the flowers of the Clitoria ternatea plant. The petals of the flower are a deep blue and the color can change when ingredients like lemon juice are added. If you have seen any color changing cocktails with blue and purple, they are probably infused with butterfly pea tea. The tea has an earthy flavor similar to many other herbal teas.
There are many brands that sell butterfly pea flower tea sometimes in a blend or you can simply purchase the dried flowers like these.

What milk to use?
You can use any type of milk you prefer such as oat milk, almond milk, coconut or regular milk. Not all milks will have the same texture when frothed but you can experiment with different types. Regular milk, especially whole milk, can froth very easily but I also find that almond milk can froth up really well too.
In order to froth your milk you will need to heat it (but do not let it boil) and then use a milk frother like this one. You can also use a milk frother that warms and froths for you if you have one. If you prefer not to froth your milk you can just warm it and add it to your tea.
Other add ins
Other sweeteners or herbs can work well in a moon milk. Experiment with what you have to create a recipe more to your tastes. You can add sugar or honey for a sweeter drink or different types of syrups like lavender. You can also add adaptagenic herbs or CBD oil for a calming effect.
