Looking for the glassware that I use? These Camille 23-Oz. Long-Stem Red Wine Glasses are great for a spritz. What is Limoncello?
Limoncello is a famous Italian lemon liqueur predominantly produced in Southern Italy, especially around the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, and Capri. It is made by steeping zest from fresh lemons in high-proof neutral grain alcohol or vodka until the essential oils are fully extracted. Once the liquid is saturated with vibrant citrus flavor, simple syrup is blended in to balance the intense tartness.
The resulting liqueur is sweet, highly aromatic, and intensely citrusy without the sharp acidity of raw lemon juice. Traditionally served ice-cold as a post-dinner digestif, limoncello has also become a beloved cocktail base around the world. Its bold sweetness makes it the perfect anchor for refreshing spritz recipes.

What is a spritz?
A spritz is a classic wine-based cocktail that originated in Northern Italy during the 1800s. Originally created by diluting local wine with a splash of water, the modern spritz has evolved into one of the most popular aperitif styles globally.
The standard blueprint for a classic spritz follows a simple ratio: three parts sparkling wine, two parts liqueur, and one part club soda. Served over plenty of ice, a spritz is light, effervescent, and lower in alcohol than traditional liquor-heavy cocktails. The bubbly texture lifts the rich flavors of the liqueur, creating an endlessly drinkable beverage suited for any celebration.

What is butterfly pea tea?
Butterfly pea tea is a herbal tea made from the dried blue petals of the Clitoria ternatea plant, which is native to Southeast Asia. Known for centuries in traditional Asian culture, this natural ingredient is famous for its intense deep blue color and incredible natural pH sensitivity.
When the liquid comes into contact with acidic ingredients like fresh lemon juice or limoncello, the pH levels shift, causing the deep royal blue color to instantly transform into a vibrant violet purple or soft pink. It adds virtually no bitter flavor, making it perfect for mixology applications where you want visual drama without altering the taste profile of your drink.
Finding butterfly pea flowers is very easy today. You can purchase whole dried flowers or crushed tea online through major retailers like Amazon. Specialty tea shops, Asian supermarkets, and health food stores also frequently carry them in the loose-leaf tea section.

How to make my Magic Potion Lavender Syrup
The true star of this drink is the homemade color-changing syrup. Combining fragrant herbal lavender with butterfly pea flowers gives you a deep indigo syrup that tastes like sweet floral sunshine. You can find the full blog post on the syrup here.
Ingredients for the syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar or 1:1 low carb sweetener
- 2 tablespoons culinary lavender buds Lavandula angustifolia
- 3 tablespoons dried butterfly pea tea flowers
Combine the water, sugar, culinary lavender, and butterfly pea flowers in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the sugar fully dissolves and the mixture reaches a gentle simmer.
Remove the pan from the heat source immediately. Allow the mixture to steep for 15 to 20 minutes so the botanical flavors and rich natural dyes fully infuse into the liquid.
Pour the finished syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a clean glass jar to remove the solids. Let the syrup cool completely at room temperature before using or storing in the refrigerator.

Pro Tips
Choose culinary grade lavender carefully to ensure your syrup tastes light and floral rather than like perfume or soap. Look specifically for Lavandula angustifolia, often sold as English lavender, which has a sweet flavor profile ideal for culinary applications.
Chill all of your liquid ingredients before assembling the drinks. Cold prosecco, chilled limoncello, and cold soda water keep the ice from melting too fast, preventing your cocktail from getting diluted.
Pour the syrup into the glass last if you want to create a layered ombre effect before stirring. The dense sugar content allows it to settle or drift dramatically through the bubbly wine before fully blending into purple.
For extra magic at parties, freeze butterfly pea tea directly into clear ice cubes. As the ice melts into the yellow limoncello and prosecco, the drink will slowly change color right in front of your guests.
