What is a Kentucky Coffee?
You’ve probably heard of Irish coffee which uses Irish whiskey. Kentucky coffee instead uses bourbon. Bourbon is often sweeter than other whiskeys with notes of caramel and spice which is a perfect compliment to coffee.

What’s the difference between whiskey and bourbon?
All bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon. Whiskeys are made from grain and aged in barrels. One thing that makes bourbon different from other whiskeys is how it is made. Bourbon is always made with at least 51% corn as well as grains. The corn helps give it a sweeter flavor. Bourbon is also aged in new charred oak barrels. Most bourbon is made in Kentucky but not all Bourbons.es
In this recipe I used a cinnamon syrup from Jack Syrups but if you can’t find a cinnamons syrup it’s incredibly easy to make at home. I love using cinnamon syrup in coffee and cocktails like this Cinnamon Jungle Bird Cocktail.
To make a cinnamon syrup: add one cup of water, one cup of sugar and 2-4 cinnamon sticks to a small sauce pot and bring to boil. Simmer for a few minutes then remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain out cinnamon sticks and store for up to one week.
How to drink your Kentucky Coffee
Although you can use any regular mug but I love using my Bru Mate hot toddy mug for hot drinks. It keeps it nice and hot for quite a long time. It’s also great for camping trips which is a perfect opportunity to make a drink like this. It also has a locking lid that prevents leaks so it’s also great for regular coffee or tea on the go.
