What is in an espresso martini?
An espresso martini is a classic cocktail made with four ingredients:
vodka
coffee liqueur (usually Kahlua)
simple syrup
espresso
Once of the best parts about this cocktail is the silky texture of the foam that forms due to shaking the espresso.
Bar tools you will need
For this cocktail you will need a shaker, a jigger or shot glass to measure, a strainer and a coupe or martini glass. You will also need an espresso or coffee maker. To get the foam to form in this cocktail it has to be made with machine brewed espresso or coffee.
What is creme de cocao?
Crème de cacao de cocao is a clear chocolate flavored liqueur. This type of liqueur differs from the creamy type like Baileys. It does not have a thick consistency like some darker chocolate liqueurs.

What kind of mint syrup to use?
You can use a home made mint syrup or buy one like this Monin syrup which will help you achieve the same festive green color. You can use any mint syrup for the same flavor.
If you can’t find or make mint syrup there is another alternative method for this recipe. Creating a peppermint infused vodka will give you the same flavor if you also use simple syrup in place of the mint syrup. To infuse the vodka, simply add a few candy canes or peppermint candies to a jar with about 1 cup of vodka. Allow the vodka to infuse for 12-24 hours or until the candy dissolves.

How to get the foam on your espresso martini
The foam in this cocktail comes from using espresso or strong machine brewed coffee. The key to getting a great foam is to shake it well until it’s really chilled. I find that using a Boston style shaker gives the best results when making cocktails with foam.
