One of my favorite summer activities on Long Island is visiting local lavender farms. Fields of vibrant purple blooms and the calming scent of fresh lavender in the air is such a beautiful sensory experience. I always leave inspired by all the ways lavender can be used in homemade recipes. From syrups and sugars to infused spirits, it’s a surprisingly versatile herb that pairs beautifully with fruit—especially fresh summer blueberries.
This Blueberry Lavender Martini is the perfect example. It’s floral, bright, and balanced, with a vibrant purple hue and a hint of citrus. Whether you’re serving it at a summer gathering or sipping it on a patio at golden hour, this drink feels elevated but still easy to make at home.
Here’s what ingredients and tools you’ll need for this drink:

When is Lavender in Season?
Lavender typically blooms from late June through August, depending on the variety and your location. If you’re near a lavender farm, mid-July is usually peak season. That’s when the flowers are the most vibrant and aromatic—perfect for infusing into spirits or making homemade syrups and sugars. If fresh lavender isn’t available near you, dried culinary-grade lavender also works well in infusions and sugars and is easy to find online or at specialty grocery stores.

When are Blueberries in Season?
Blueberries hit their peak in the U.S. from June to August. Fresh, local blueberries have a juicier, more concentrated flavor compared to their off-season counterparts, making them ideal for homemade syrups. If you’re making this cocktail out of season, frozen blueberries will still work just as well for the syrup.

How to Make Your Own Lavender-Infused Gin or Vodka
Making your own infused spirits is simple and a great way to add a custom flavor to cocktails. Lavender has a strong aroma, so you only need a short infusion time.
Lavender-Infused Gin or Vodka
- 1 cup (240 ml) gin or vodka
- 1–2 tsp dried culinary lavender or a few fresh sprigs
- Glass jar with a lid
Add the lavender to the jar and pour in the spirit. Seal and let it steep for 24 hours, then strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the lavender. Store the infused spirit in a sealed bottle at room temperature for up to a few months.
Tip: Start with 1 tsp dried lavender and taste after 12–24 hours. You can always add more, but too much will make it bitter or soapy.

How to Make Your Own Lavender Sugar
Lavender sugar is an easy DIY upgrade that adds a delicate floral aroma to cocktail rims, baked goods, and even tea.
Lavender Sugar
- ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp dried culinary lavender
Pulse the sugar and lavender together in a food processor until finely ground, or simply stir together and store in an airtight jar. Let it sit for at least a day to allow the sugar to fully absorb the lavender flavor.
To use it for a cocktail rim, lightly run a lemon wedge around the edge of your glass and dip it into the lavender sugar.

Pro Tips
- Chill your glass: Pop your martini glass in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving to keep the cocktail cold longer.
- Double strain: To remove any small bits of blueberry or lavender, pour your shaken cocktail through a fine mesh strainer into the glass.
- Make it in advance: The infused gin/vodka and blueberry syrup can be prepped days ahead, so all you have to do is shake and pour when it’s cocktail time.
